Description
Purpleheart | Peltogyne spp.
Purpleheart is prized by woodworkers for one thing above all: color that no stain or dye can replicate. Grain typically runs straight, occasionally with a fine curly figure, and the fine, even texture gives a smooth surface to work with. Purpleheart is moderately hard to work with standard tools but rewards the effort with a glossy, lustrous finish. A lacquer finish is recommended to best preserve its signature color, since some finishes can dull the purple over time. Its density and hardness also make it a durable choice for pieces that need to hold up to daily use.
